Day 2 Huahine, Society Islands
Today, you’ll call on Huahine, known as the “Garden Island” for its lush rainforests and dramatic terrain. While here, you might explore the island’s sacred sites and legendary landmarks that are among the best-preserved archaeological remains in French Polynesia. Enjoy snorkeling or SCUBA diving in the expansive lagoon. Or picnic on the beach.

Day 3 Taha’a (Motu Mahana)
Motu Mahana, an islet adjacent to Taha’a, is our very own South Seas paradise, featuring white-sand beaches with swaying palms, crystal-clear waters, and gentle breezes. As an exclusive Paul Gauguin event, you will spend a full day on this idyllic island, pursuing your own pleasures from swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking in the turquoise lagoon to playing volleyball, learn Tahitian cooking secrets, or simply relaxing on the beach. Also included is a delicious barbecue lunch and Polynesian entertainment featuring strolling musicians and singers.

Day 4 Bora Bora
Immediately recognizable by Mount Otemanu rising from the ocean, this half-atoll, half-mountain is surrounded by a spectacular lagoon and a series of smaller islands. Ancient Polynesians called it Parapora, or “firstborn,” because they thought it was the first island created after Raiatea.

Day 5 Bora Bora
Explore more of this magical isle on your own or on a choice of optional shore excursions. Choose from several, like a jitney tour on “Le Truck,” a 4-wheel-drive safari, or a glass-bottom boat ride. We will set sail before dinner, enjoying a relaxing evening on board.

Day 6 Moorea
Graced with an abundance of fresh fruits and flowers, spectacular mountain peaks, peaceful multi-hued lagoons, and palm-fringed beaches, Moorea boasts an awesome beauty that is unsurpassed. During your visit, you might wish to shop for local crafts, embark on a dolphin-watching expedition with a marine biologist and witness these fascinating animals in their amazing natural habitat, or try out some of the local pineapples, said to be the most delicious in all of French Polynesia. An overnight here affords us two full days to explore the gorgeous island.

Day 7 Moorea/Papeete (Tahiti)
Explore more of this peaceful oasis. Perhaps you will choose to trek on the “Trails of the Ancients” or snorkel one of the world’s most beautiful lagoons. At the end of the afternoon, we cruise to our home port in Papeete, docking for the night.

Day 8 Disembark in Papeete
Cap off your epic journey where it all began. You won’t be the same as when you first set sail – these exotic isles are said to touch people in magical ways. Day 1 Embark the m/s Paul Gauguin in Papeete, Tahiti (Society Islands)
The islands of Polynesia are a gorgeous collection of volcanic islands and atolls strewn lazily across the grand Pacific Ocean. The island of Tahiti proper is the largest of the 118 islands and atolls that comprise French Polynesia. Papeete, the modern capital of Tahiti and her islands, contains government offices, hospitals, banks, and many other services dedicated to serving the islands, as well as guests who come to these islands for a life-enriching experience. You’ll embark The Gauguin here this afternoon and have time to settle into your cabin before dinner onboard later in the evening. The ship will set sail tonight.

Day 2 Huahine, Society Islands
Your first port of call is Huahine, known as “The Garden Island” for its lush rainforests and dramatic terrain. While here, you can cruise the expansive lagoon, explore the island’s culture, or picnic on the beach.

Day 3 Bora Bora
Pulitzer Prize-winning author James Michener called Bora Bora “the most beautiful island in the world.” Dominated by two towering volcanic mountains and surrounded by a lagoon protected by low-lying coral reefs, this is indeed a spectacular destination. The ship arrives here in the morning and remains until later afternoon, giving you a full day in this quintessential Pacific paradise.

Day 4 Bora Bora
Pulitzer Prize-winning author James Michener described Bora Bora as “The most beautiful island in the world.” You might wish to explore the island with a number of activities, such as a tour of the island paradise that affords breathtaking island views. Or, glide over crystalline waters on a glass bottom boat to see the island’s famous marine life without getting wet, take a thrilling helicopter ride over the ship and island, or simply spend a few hours lolling on the island’s beautiful beach.

Day 5 Rangiroa
Rangiroa is the largest atoll of the Tuamotu Archipelago, which comprises 78 coral atolls scattered over several hundred miles of the eastern Pacific Ocean. Life on these remote atolls is simple, quiet and peaceful. In the small villages, the visitor can discover the true flavor of the Tuamotu, often participating in the daily activities of the Paumotu people. The interior lagoons are a haven for black pearl farms, fish breeding farms, snorkeling and scuba diving.

Day 6 Fakarava, Tuamotus
Known in the days before modern navigation as the “Dangerous Archipelago” for its shallow passages the Tuamotus islands are a diver’s paradise. You’ll call first on Fakarava, whose diverse ecosystem has earned it the designation of a UNESCO-Classified Nature Reserve. There are two massive passes on the island where experienced divers can descend up to 130 feet into a world of cauliflower coral, gray sharks, and fish schooling by the thousands. Or stay on land and explore the island’s charming villages, ancient temples, and 19th-century coral church.

Day 7 At Sea
Spend the day enjoying The Gauguin’s Polynesian ambiance: casual, leisurely, and graceful. Perhaps you’ll take in a lecture by one of our special guests, then dine in the evening over classic French cuisine at L’Etoile.

Day 8 Taha’a (Motu Mahana), Society Islands
Motu Mahana, an islet adjacent to Taha’a, is our very own South Seas paradise, featuring white-sand beaches with swaying palms, crystal-clear waters, and gentle breezes. As an exclusive Paul Gauguin event, you will spend a full day on this idyllic island doing exactly as you please. Day 9 Moorea, Society Islands
Covered in an abundance of fresh fruits and flowers, spectacular mountain peaks, peaceful multi-hued lagoons, and palm-fringed beaches, Moorea features a magnificent beauty that is unsurpassed. White-sand beaches lapped by the translucent shimmering lagoon water and shaded by palm, coconut, and ironwood groves stretch for miles. During your visit, you might wish to take an optional air-conditioned coach ride around the island to admire the stunning views.

Day 10 Moorea/Papeete, Tahiti
Perhaps today you will try an optional SCUBA diving excursion among the sea turtles and staggering amount of fish species that call Moorea’s waters home. Or simply relax and revel in the island’s natural splendor. Late this afternoon, the ship casts off for Tahiti’s capital, where you’ll enjoy a final overnight.

Day 11 Papeete
Day 11 Papeete Disembark The Gauguin this morning and transfer to the airport for your flight home. Or stay on with an optional hotel stay.

Day 1 Papeete/Embark the m/s Paul Gauguin
Embark the m/s Paul Gauguin in the afternoon and have time to settle into your cabin before dinner onboard later in the evening. The ship will set sail later that night.

Day 2 Huahine
Huahine is actually two islands, Huahine Iti and Huahine Nui, and the ship anchors between the two in Maroe Bay. This strikingly beautiful pair of islands boasts a crystalline lagoon, colorful villages, and a wealth of Polynesian archaeological sites. Rising 2,200 feet above the sea, Mount Turi is the islands’ high point and provides a dramatic backdrop. While you’re here, you can cruise the lagoon, explore the island’s culture, or picnic on the beach. More vigorous pursuits including a hill trek and SCUBA diving are also available.

Day 3 At Sea
Take a day to enjoy shipboard life: relax poolside, watch the South Pacific pass by, play some table tennis, or read up on our next port at the Reading Gallery.

Day 4 Aitutaki, Cook Islands
Aitutaki’s coral reefs enclose a particularly large and beautiful lagoon. Uninhabited, palm-clad islets (motus) dot the reef, and even the main island is only eight square miles in area. Bask in the sun and enjoy breath-taking views of the shimmering lagoon during a lagoon cruise and beach visit. Or venture to a nearby marine reserve for some snorkeling. Arutanga village is the island’s town, home to the oldest church in the Cooks, which dates from 1829.

Day 5 Rarotonga, Cook Islands
Call today at Rarotonga, capital of the Cook Islands and the most mountainous of the group. Although this is one of the most beautiful places in the world to do nothing, you have a plethora of options for getting as active as you want. Snorkel in the crystalline waters of Muri Lagoon, or encounter the lushness of tropical nature in the Takitumu Conservation Area. Take an easy ride all the way around the island, or make a rugged hike into its lush interior with “Pa,” a local naturalist.

Day 6 At Sea
Spend another day experiencing Paul Gauguin’s Polynesian ambience: casual, leisurely, and graceful. Take in a lecture on local wildlife or history, and relax this evening over classic French cuisine.

Bora Bora’s lagoon is constantly replenished with ocean water from the swells that crash between sandy motus and over the lagoon’s fringing reef. Perhaps today you will discover its charms while swimming, snorkeling, or via an outrigger canoe.

Begin your South Pacific adventure in the heart of Fiji’s sugarcane-growing region. Here, you’ll embark your luxurious floating home for the next 12 nights: the m/s Paul Gauguin.

Day 2 Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji
In Fiji, virtually everyone you’ll meet will be smiling—and when you view the high mountains, lush vegetation, shimmering waters, and pristine white-sand beaches of this island nation, you’ll understand why. The capital of Fiji since 1883, Suva is located on rugged Viti Levu, the largest of the island chain and home to 75% of the country’s population. Suva itself is the largest urban area in the South Pacific outside of Australia and New Zealand. Perched on a hilly peninsula between two harbors, it boasts a fascinating mix of modern and colonial architectural, as well as a sophisticated ambiance. On your own, perhaps you’ll visit the Fiji Museum or Handicraft Centre, or stroll the Victoria Parade, the city’s main street. Or join a shore excursion for a walk through the rain forest, a round a golf, a diving expedition, and more.

Day 3 Savusavu, Vanua Levu, Fiji
The island of Vanua Levu in northern Fiji remains largely undeveloped, making it a charming, unspoiled haven. It is the second-largest of Fiji’s 300 islands, and, because of its remoteness, it is reminiscent of the South Seas before its European discovery. Largely unchanged over the past 30 years, the village of Savusavu is sometimes called the “Hidden Paradise of Fiji,” with its single, half-mile-long main street facing a fantastically beautiful bay. In the afternoon, you can see pots on top of steaming fissures as women prepare the evening meal on the hot springs that bubble up throughout the town. Explore at your leisure, or join one of many available shore excursions, such as a visit to a black-pearl farm, a Fijian village, or a plantation.

Day 4 At Sea

Day 5 Vava’u, Tonga
One of the easternmost countries in the world, nudging the International Date Line, the Kingdom of Tonga was never colonized by Europeans, a distinction it shares with no other South Pacific nation. As a result, today it is the oldest and last remaining Polynesian monarchy, and its culture remains strong, even in the face of modernization. One of the Kingdom of Tonga’s three main island groups, the islands of Vava’u are renowned for their colorful coral reefs, white-sand beaches, and lagoon so clear, you can see to a depth of 130 feet. Perhaps you’ll join a shore excursion to Swallows Cave, a famous bird sanctuary. Or discover the calm waterways by sea kayak.

Take advantage of the opportunity to truly get away from it all as you admire the golden-sand beaches, swaying palms, and azure skies … marvel at the phenomenal snorkeling, with an abundance of tropical fish inhabiting local reefs … take in sweeping sea views from the comfort of a double hammock … and enjoy true Fijian hospitality, offered by villagers whose ancestry here dates back thousands of years. Late this afternoon, The Gauguin sails to Lautoka, where you will overnight on board.

Day 5 Omoa, Fatu Hiva
Fatu Hiva is wild and spectacularly beautiful. The jungle greenery begins at the water’s edge, with narrow ravines, deep gorges and luxuriant valleys briefly open to view as the boat glides past, close to the sheer cliffs that plunge straight down into the splashing surf.

Day 6 Atuona, Hiva Oa
Hiva Oa is an island marked by wild beauty and a somber bearing. The main town is Atuona, where Paul Gauguin is buried. You might visit the village of Puamau to see the largest stone sculptures of Marquesas. The are considered links to the tikis of Easter Island and Necker Island, north of Hawaii.

Day 7 Hapatoni, Tahuata
The smallest of the Marquesas archipelago, at only 19 square miles, Tahuata is a leaf-shaped volcanic island with sheer cliffs, white-sand beaches, lush vegetation, twin bays—and a turbulent colonial history. You’ll call on Hapatoni, a charming, seafront village with an ancient paved royal walkway shaded by tamanu trees. Visit the huge Catholic church, built by the Vatican and decorated with stunning stained-glass windows and beautiful local carvings. Admire traditional carvings at the crafts center. And enjoy fine swimming and snorkeling in the only Marquesas island edged by coral reef.

Day 8 Tiaohae, Nuku Hiva
As the governmental and economic center, Nuku Hiva is the most important island in the Marquesas. It’s also stunningly beautiful, with three major bays on the south coast and similarly gorgeous inlets on the north coast as well.

Days 9-10 Cruise the Pacific Ocean
For the next two days will be at sea. You will have time to relax and enjoy the amenities of the m/s Paul Gauguin. Perhaps you will visit our award-winning spa, or listen to one of the lectures by our onboard experts.

Day 11 Huahine
Known as the “wild” Society for its untamed, verdant forests, Huahine remains relatively untouched by modern development. Explore some of the abundant archaeological treasures – ancient homes, buildings, and marae (stone platforms that served as places of worship) – excavated and preserved throughout the island. Day 12 Bora Bora
Bora Bora’s lagoon is a must-see: this is your chance for a swim, snorkel or outrigger cruise. The lagoon is constantly replenished with ocean water from the swells that crash between sandy motus (small islets) and over the fringing reef.

Day 13 Taha’a (Motu Mahana)
Arrive at our South Seas paradise – featuring white sand beaches with swaying palms, crystal-clear waters and gentle breezes. As an exclusive Paul Gauguin event, guests will spend a full day exploring this idyllic, isolated island, and relaxing with a delicious barbecue lunch and Polynesian entertainment which features strolling musicians and singers.

Day 14 Moorea/Papeete, Tahiti
The island of Moorea’s scenery is like a dream. Try out some exciting optional watersports like scuba diving among a host of interesting sea creatures – including sea turtles, a staggering number of fish species such as barracuda, tuna, jackfish, red snapper, moray eels, trigger fish, various sizes and shapes of rays and more. At the end of the afternoon, we cruise to our home port in Papeete, docking there for the night.

Day 15 Disembark in Papeete
In the morning you’ll disembark the m/s Paul Gauguin , capping off your epic journey through the South Pacific.
